Message from President Carey

Dear Alumni,

On Friday, May 26, Transylvania friends and supporters will come together to celebrate the groundbreaking for our new Carpenter Academic Center. Because of the generosity of Pete Carpenter ’64 and his wife, Marilyn, who donated the lead gift, Haupt Humanities Building will soon be transformed into a vibrant, state-of-the-art academic facility.

Thanks to the donation we received from the Carpenters, a gift from Mr. William T. Young Jr., chairman of Transylvania’s Board of Trustees—which our generous trustees matched—and contributions from many alumni and friends, I am pleased to announce that we have raised more than 90 percent of the funds needed for the project and will begin work this summer. If you are among the individuals supporting this effort, please accept my gratitude for the impact you will have upon each and every future student.

Over the next 12 months, there will be few changes to the exterior facade of the building, which will continue to reflect our traditional campus architecture. Meanwhile, the inside will undergo a modernization that will help us meet the ever-changing needs of today’s instructional environment.

The renovation will upgrade classrooms, create student gathering spaces, and integrate cutting-edge technology. Our goal is to provide our students and faculty with flexible, modern spaces for active learning, and by doing so, create an environment that will also capture the imaginations of prospective students.

I hope you share my excitement about these changes and how they will enrich the learning experience for all Transylvania students. Thank you for your continuing support of our ongoing campus revitalization.

Sincerely,

Seamus Carey
President
