Natasa's Notes

Fellow Transylvanians,

The campus is full of life and energy in this first full week of fall term classes! We enjoyed a beautiful day last Friday at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new residence hall (see article in campus news section).

It’s a busy month ahead for the alumni and development staff as we kick- off our tour with President Carey beginning with Kentucky. This week we are in Owensboro and Bowling Green, next week in Newport and Louisville.  A couple of Lexington events are planned for next month (see event schedule on the right).

Special thanks to Marcia Park Cone ’76 for her oil painting of Old Morrison. Check the alumni programs section of the newsletter for information on how you can purchase this limited edition print.

Below you’ll find lots more news and updates on things that may be of interest to you. Thank you for your continued support!

Young, chairman of the Transylvania University Board of Trustees. “The new residence hall will offer suite accommodations for students with common study and activity areas. The brick structure will be consistent with Transylvania’s traditional architecture.” Click title to read more.

Helping first-year students adjust to college benefits juniors, seniors
Transylvania University’s innovative August term not only helps recent high school grads transition to college, but it’s also a valuable experience for the upper-class students who mentor them. These juniors and seniors—called August term scholars—advise students during their first few weeks on campus about life both inside and outside the classroom and work with faculty to develop First Engagements seminars, which hone new students’ critical, interpretative, and analytical abilities. The Inside Scoop

The Student Perspective
The Student Perspective
Hey there, my name is Katie-Beth Gamblin and I am a student of the class of 2016. The purpose of this section is to fill everyone in on what’s going on on campus!

Move-In for upperclassmen was last Sunday/Monday and everyone was glad to be getting back from the long 3 month summer vacation. Over the summer, Transy students held positions in scholastic organizations, volunteered in Lexington and in their hometowns, spent some time abroad for a summer semester, spent some time at Transy for a summer semester, worked various jobs, did research, and longed to be back in “the bubble”.

The first week of school was jam packed with activities, starting with the Back to School Picnic! Although it was rainy, students gathered in the caf and shrills of greeting could be heard from every direction. Tuesday night was a huge bingo tournament that offered players prizes from copies of Mean Girls to early room registration for next year to a big screen TV. I don’t think I’ve ever seen students as intense as they were during this tournament. Click title to read more.
