Transylvania hires Gatton College’s marketing director for VP position
Transylvania University has named Michele Gaither Sparks as its first vice president for marketing and communications. Sparks, who has worked in higher education for more than two decades, has served as director of marketing communications for the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics for the past nine years. She will start at Transylvania on Aug. 18. Click title to read more.

The Transylvania University assistant professor of music got busy responding to his own question, resulting in publication of “The Word Rhythm Dictionary: A Resource for Writers, Rappers, Poets, and Lyricists” (Rowman & Littlefield), a 689-page gold mine for the creative-yet-stumped. Attention, reunion classes celebrating 5-year reunions in 2015! If your class year ends in 0 or 5, please put the above date on your calendar. You won't want to miss the opportunity to return to campus and catch up with classmates and former professors. The alumni office is in the process of forming Reunion Committees for each 5-year reunion class. All 5-year reunion committees will meet on campus Saturday, August 16, 2014, for the 2015 Reunion Kick-Off. If you would like to take part in the planning effort, contact Natasa Pajic Mongiardo or Tracy Stephens Dunn in the alumni office. Juli Fulks to lead Transylvania women's basketball program
Juli Fulks has been named head coach of the Transylvania women's basketball program, the athletic department announced Friday. "We are so excited to welcome Juli to our Pioneer family," said Athletic Director Holly Sheilley. "We are confident that she will be good fit for our program as we look to continue the success of our women's basketball program and take it to the next level." Fulks comes to Lexington from Portland, Ore. where she served for 10 years as the head coach at NCAA Division III Lewis & Clark College, one of the Top 75 National Liberal Arts Colleges in the country. Recent grad named Woodrow Wilson Ohio Teaching Fellow
Transylvania grad Emmie Wyatt ’14 has been awarded a fellowship that aims to place the brightest teachers in high-need schools. Wyatt, who was named a 2014 Woodrow Wilson Ohio Teaching Fellow, plans to attend the University of Cincinnati this fall. The Alexandria, Ky., native will receive a $30,000 stipend for an intensive master’s degree program. The fellowship helps further the education of teachers with experience in the STEM fields: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Wyatt, who majored in math and Spanish at Transylvania, has been a math tutor, a volunteer at an inner-city grade school and a lead campus admissions ambassador. Click title to read more.
