Fellow Transylvanians,

Nothing signals a fresh start like seeing our new students walking around campus! We welcomed the Class of 2018 on Friday and Monday they began August Term. This weekend we will be hosting alumni from the 5-year reunion classes for 2015 (class years ending in “0” and “5”) at the Reunion Kick-Off. If you haven’t signed up to help with your class reunion yet, it’s not too late. Click here.

We are gearing up for a busy fall by teaming up with our admissions office to introduce President Seamus Carey to alumni, friends and prospective students and their families. Save the date for the following events with the President: Wednesday, September 10 – alumni lunch in Owensboro; Thursday, September 11 – alumni lunch in Bowling Green; Tuesday, September 16 – alumni dinner followed by dessert reception for prospective students in Newport; Tuesday, September 23 – alumni dinner followed by a dessert reception for prospective students in Louisville; and Thursday, October 9 – alumni dinner followed by a dessert reception for prospective students in Ashland. Stay tuned for details as well as additional events in other parts of the country!

Transylvania, Forum to co-host Lexington mayoral debate
Transylvania University and the Lexington Forum will co-host a formal public debate between incumbent Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and former Lexington Police Chief Anthany Beatty. Beatty is challenging Gray’s bid for a second term as elected leader of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. They will square off on the stage of Transylvania’s Carrick Theater at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Click title to read more.

Transylvania again honored as one of America's top colleges
The Princeton Review listed Transylvania University in its publication “The Best 379 Colleges,” earning the school a spot in the top 15 percent of four-year colleges in the United States. “Transylvania offers outstanding academics, which is the chief reason we selected it for the book,” said Robert Franek, Princeton Review's senior vice president and author of “The Best 379 Colleges.” Click title to read more.

Save the Date - Alumni Weekend 2015 - April 24-26
Attention, reunion classes celebrating 5-year reunions in 2015! If your class year ends in 0 or 5, please put the above date on your calendar. You won't want to miss the opportunity to return to campus and catch up with classmates and former professors. The alumni office is in the process of forming Reunion Committees for each 5-year reunion class. All 5-year reunion committees will meet on campus Saturday, August 16, 2014, for the 2015 Reunion Kick-Off. If you would like to take part in the planning effort, contact Natasa Pajic Mongiardo or Tracy Stephens Dunn in the alumni office. The following classes have active Facebook Groups: 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010. Let us know if you would like a Facebook Group for your class.

It's easy to join the Transylvania Women's Club
The Transylvania Women’s Club invites you to become a member for the year 2014-2015. Founded in 1915, we are a service club that has been dedicated to helping Transylvania and its students for close to 100 years.  Club members also enjoy connecting with others who share the Transylvania experience. Athletic department launches new web site
The Transylvania University athletic department announces its new website for the 2014-15 athletic season. PrestoSports allows teams to manage their websites, statistics and share sports information with their opponents and affiliates in real time.  The site offers a mobile application for fans to follow all 26 Transylvania athletic programs from a mobile device,  available on App Store and Google play. With the app, #TUGameDay, fans can view digital game day programs, up-to-date rosters and conference standings. The new site also offers a way for individuals to submit nominations for the Pioneer Hall of Fame. Click title to read more.

Cooper Vaughan '03
Cooper Vaughan '03 is developing a 15,500-square-foot food and beverage destination on Jefferson Street in Lexington. When finished this fall, the facility will include The Apiary, and event space. Cooper is also a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in London. Click title to read article.

“Creating a sense of community is perhaps the most essential component within any classroom.”
Amelia El-Hindi Trail is no longer surprised when she hears local school principals and administrators praise Transylvania graduates teaching in their schools. As a teacher educator for the Kentucky Teacher Internship Program, she frequently follows Transylvania graduates through their first year of teaching and she sees how well prepared and effective they are. We'd love your help planning the festivities, so consider joining your reunion committee.  All five-year reunion committees will meet on campus Saturday, August 16 for the 2015 Reunion Kick-Off. We will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Cowgill Center off Morrison Circle. Lunch will be provided.
