Natasa's Notes

Happy New Year, fellow Pioneers!

I hope you are staying warm and that your 2015 is off to a great start! Our students are nearing the end of the first week of the winter semester and probably already wishing for spring. It was zero degrees Fahrenheit in Lexington this morning. At least it’s sunny.

I wanted to take this opportunity and thank you for the overwhelming response to the Alumni Plaza project. To date, we have raised $337,000 through your donations at various levels. Please check the website for updates on what is still available for purchase.

Please remember to email me nominations for the Transylvania Alumni Board by January 15. I will pass them on to the TAB Nominating Committee. Prospective nominees should have a record of participation in and support of Transylvania’s programs and must be willing to serve a three-year term.

Until next time, thank you for reading TransE-Mail.

Making a Difference

Planned Giving Legacy
What do scholarships, library resources, exposure to the performing arts and even the construction of Old Morrison itself all have in common?  They were created or supported by alumni and friends who were inspired to make a planned gift to Transylvania.  We invite you to consider leaving a legacy of your own through one of the many options listed below.  Some may offer favorable tax benefits for you and your family.  Individuals who contribute in this manner are recognized as members of the James Morrison Society of donors. Click title to read about options.
Giving Electronically Monthly (GEM)!
GEM is one of the easiest ways to make a gift to Transylvania. You simply choose an amount to be deducted from your bank account or charged to your credit card every month. You may change or cancel your contribution at any time. At the end of each year, you receive a receipt for tax purposes. A little bit each month adds up to a substantial financial gift over the course of the year.

If you have already made your gift—THANK YOU!  If not, please consider making a gift today by clicking here.

To sign up for GEM, click here, and select Other Giving Options, or contact John Davis in the development office at (800) 487-2679.

Faculty Spotlight

Kenny Moorman '91
Kenny Moorman '91
As a professor, there is nothing that Kenneth Moorman enjoys more than seeing one of his students succeed in the post-Transylvania world. Unless, of course, it's convincing non-computer science majors that the subject near and dear to his heart can offer something of value to them as well. Either way, Moorman revels in his students' success, something he's grown quite accustomed to since joining the Transylvania faculty in 1997.

Part of that success is due, in part, to Moorman's belief that the undergraduate classroom, where the presentation of information is critical, should not focus on "dry lectures." Rather, he says, the classroom should provide "opportunities for active involvement by the students." Click title to read more.
