100 Doors to Success seeking mentors
Anyone who may be interested in serving as a mentor to a student during our pilot program in January can now formally register on the online portal which can be accessed here. Over 50 students have already expressed an interest in having a mentor, and that number will continue to grow as we approach November 15, the deadline for them to apply.  Additionally, if you are unable to be a mentor, but would still like to interact with our students regarding career or professional advice, there are other opportunities to help. Once on the portal, you can indicate those preferences. For more information regarding the program, visit, or contact Deana Ison, at

Let's go for seven!
Each year, Transylvania University joins 19 other Kentucky independent colleges for a friendly competition to sell the most license plates in the state of Kentucky. Students are the ultimate winners of the Battle of the Bumpers, because $10 is added to our general scholarship fund for each Transylvania plate sold.  With the help of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends, Transylvania University has held the top spot for the last SIX years.

Show your support of this great school by purchasing or renewing a Transylvania University license plate. With your help, we can reach the top spot for the seventh year! The results will be announced at at the end of April of each year.
The initial cost of a Transylvania license plate is $44; renewal is $31. Questions?  Visit to learn more. For more info: John Davis, director of development, (859) 281-3565,

Jerry Seebach

Connoisseurs might tell you a particular bottle of wine is complex. Most probably don’t realize the depth of the complexity. Jerry Seebach does.

Among his areas of interest is the oxidation of wine. “There are about 1,000 to 2,000 different components in a bottle of wine,” Seebach said. He hasn’t studied them all—but he’s working on it. During a recent sabbatical, Seebach worked with a respected member of the enology department at the University of California, Davis. They were researching what causes oxidation of wine. Inside Scoop

The Inside Scoop
The Inside Scoop
Hi, my name is Shelby Catlett and I am a sophomore. I just wanted to let you all know what has been happening on campus recently.
The most exciting thing was that a country a capella group called Home Free performed on campus. Home Free won Season 4 of The Sing Off. Dorothy J. Smith, a graduate of Transylvania’s class of 1942, funded a concert series that this performance was a part of. The Mitchell Fine Arts building was packed that night with students and others from the community to see Home Free. It was such an exciting night! They sang some of my favorite country songs and amazed me with their incredible talent.
Another exciting night was the Delta Delta Delta’s Water Wars. There were swimming and diving contests between all eight of the greek life organizations. The Deltas raised over $1,300 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Other events that have happened on campus include Pumpkinmania, which consisted of hundreds of pumpkins being carved by members of the Transylvania community and trick-or-treating for children in Lexington. Also, Hillary Clinton and Alison Lundergan Grimes rallied on campus on November 1st. There was a line out the door to see them.
Life at Transy is about to get hectic as the semester wraps up and students begin preparing for exams and Christmas break. We will have tons of events planned to try and alleviate some stress, thank goodness! I can’t wait to see what else Transy has in store for us this year!
